About Me
Nothing speaks my language more than art. It truly speaks a thousand
words. Since high school, I have always found art to be therapeutic. I
wrote countless poems and created pictures that helped both express and
process my thoughts, feelings, and experiences more effectively. For this
reason, I pursued a career in art therapy to help others do the same.
I am a board-certified art therapist with experience working with a
wide range of populations and ages. I have worked in various settings such
as addiction centers, psychiatric residential treatment facilities, psychiatric
hospitals, non-profit organizations, and schools. In addition, I have
traveled internationally to the nations of Peru and Ukraine helping
disadvantaged youth with the use of art therapy.
It has been a pleasure to have shared my knowledge of art therapy as a
guest lecturer at Savannah College of Art and Design, UGA Gwinnett campus, and
Emory University as well as presented workshops at Freeman Counseling Center
and Georgia Baptist Children's Home. Additionally, I have enjoyed writing
about my experiences in three self-published books: Pieces of His Heart
(2007), When Wounded Trees Cry (2014), and a poetry book Ravens and
Receipts (2020).
In my free time, I love creating art of many forms including painting, poetry,
mixed media, watercolor sketches, and most especially glass mosaics. I have had
my work displayed at several locations including:
-
The International Museum of Cultures, Duncanville, TX,
-
Desoto Civic Center and Faith Bible Church, Desoto, TX,
-
Lighthouse Coffee House, Midlothian, TX
-
Mason Murer Fine Arts Gallery, Atlanta, GA.
-
Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center, Marietta, GA
-
The Painted Tree, Buford, GA
It is a joy to be working with clients at Freedom Path Counseling where the
journey to heal is not just a verbal one, but visual as well. Using a variety of art
mediums to help client’s explore issues through metaphor and meaning, one’s
process of creation, and in relationship to their Creator is so rewarding.
